“I am a non binary person who has female anatomy. I was supposed to be informed of an appointment for a smear aged 25, due to the NHS negligence, I didn’t have an offer of a smear until I was 28. The only reason I was offered one was because the nurse doing my contraceptive injection asked why I hadn’t had one. I finally had the smear test and then was told I had HPV cells and I would need to have them cauterised out. I was denied a chaperone and was made to feel incredibly uncomfortable in an already scary situation. I am scared to this day that I will get cervical cancer and that it will be missed because my gender identity causes the NHS to oversee me.”
