Emily Bristow and Jennifer Smith
Emily’s mum, Jennifer, died from aggressive ovarian cancer in March 2021, having been diagnosed in August 2020 at the height of Covid.
Jennifer had been repeatedly dismissed by her GP and the hospital despite ongoing bleeding. She was in her 70s, making the lack of investigation unacceptable.
Crucially, a CA125 blood test, a standard blood test that can indicate ovarian cancer, was never carried out. A medical student reportedly suggested the test, but was told the hospital would arrange it. The hospital did not.
Emily, 43, from Newport, has since been diagnosed with cancer herself but decided to go private as soon as she found a lump. She was diagnosed within a week and describes it as a “completely different experience, which it shouldn’t be.”
