“Briefly: It took 4 years to get my Ovarian Cancer diagnosis. They kept telling me “you are too young”, “it’s just a heavy period”, “you are just bloated, lose weight”, “eat better, you will feel better” “it isnt cancer, stop being dramatic” “yes, we can see the huge cysts growing on your ovary and can see every OC symptom but your CA125 is normal so go home”… and so many more. I was made to believe it was all in my head. I stopped living and just existed, I had no fight left. It was left to my husband to demand ‘elective surgery’.
“The day they told me I had cancer was an absolute disgrace. It is a very long story but after attending a routine post surgery appt alone, they would not see me unless I had someone with me whilst indicating it was cancer. They had me sit in a waiting room full of pregnant women for 1hr and half, crying my eyes out, waiting on my husband to arrive. 10 minutes before he got there, the consultant angrily took me into a side room because she had to leave the building and couldn’t wait any longer. She told me it was Cancer and then with a smile said “but its really rare, so it’s very interesting and it will be studied in Belfast”.”
