Claire’s Campaign welcomes the publication of the Audit Wales report into cancer services. However, the evidence uncovered and its findings are deeply concerning.
More than a year has passed since the publication of the Senedd Health and Social Care Committee’s “Unheard” report, which followed its inquiry into gynaecological cancers. Yet, there has been no progress in reducing gynaecological cancer waiting times, which are among the worst. The huge variation in performance between health boards is equally unacceptable and must be addressed.
The lack of clarity regarding responsibility for improving gynaecological cancer outcomes is alarming. In its response to this report, we expect the Welsh Government to be clear and provide clarity and certainty of responsibility and accountability for improved outcomes for gynaecological cancer patients as a matter of urgency.
We welcome the report’s focus on the very limited data available to assess equity in cancer support services. We continue to campaign for better data concerning access to cancer services to allow us to understand how many women with gynaecological cancer, and cancer symptoms, are affected and make improvements.
