In January 2023, Claire submitted written evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee’s inquiry into gynaecological cancers. She explained her journey to diagnosis, including being misdiagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and undergoing an open myomectomy to remove a fibroid. She noted her diagnosis of Uterine Leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) in November 2022 and subsequent treatments, including a full hysterectomy. Her evidence highlighted the urgent need for improvement within the primary care system to prevent incorrect and delayed diagnoses and called for a cultural shift within the NHS, which better includes patients’ voices.

Russell George MS, then Committee chair, said:
“The evidence that I heard through the brave women who spoke to us was the most powerful and emotional evidence that I have come across in my 13 years as being a Member here.”
